Woodbury Animal Hospital Promises Only the Best for Puppies & Kittens

inside imageThe earliest stages in a young dog or cat's life are some of the most crucial. This is the best time to begin forming a solid foundation for lifelong good health. With this in mind, we recommend scheduling your new puppy or kitten's first visit to Woodbury Animal Hospital once they reach about eight weeks of age.

Preventative Pet Care Starts Early

The first trip to the vet for a puppy or kitten is always very important; it is here that they'll get their first physical examination. We conduct a full head to tail exam on all new puppies and kittens. We feel this is the best way to start them off on the right foot, while preparing for any future health concerns.

This is also the time when your new friend will receive their first round of new pet vaccinations. At Woodbury Animal Hospital, it is standard protocol for us to divide vaccinations into a series of appointments. This will be easier on your pet's immune system, while cutting down on the potential for allergic reactions to occur. Standard vaccines always include:

  • Distemper – given at 8, 12, and 16 weeks of age.
  • Rabies – given between 18 and 20 weeks.
  • Others vaccinations for conditions such as bordatella, feline leukemia, lyme disease, canine influenza, and leptospirosis are administered in accordance with your new pet's behaviors, living environment, and lifestyle.

We emphasize preventative care measures like vaccinations, not only to keep companion animals healthy, but also to prevent zoonotic diseases from spreading from pets to humans. The right vaccinations can keep infectious diseases in pets from being transmitted. Our veterinarians address pet health comprehensively, taking into account the health of your human family members too.

Spaying, Neutering & Puppy and Kitten Specialty Services

To help ensure health and longevity for your pet, we highly recommend spaying or neutering. These procedures are a viable way to prevent reproduction, disease, and erratic behavior in pets. Other services for dogs and cats include the option of pet microchipping as well as de-clawing for indoor cats. As always, we are more than happy to give advice on nutrition, grooming, crate training, housebreaking, and just about anything and everything in the puppy and kitten world.

Whether you're looking for a new source for your pet's health cares or you've just recently adopted, Woodbury Animal Hospital is a great place for your new companion. Call today for your pet's first appointment
